The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. was originally located in Wallingford, Connecticut. Today, the company goes under the name Wallace Silversmiths, Inc. They were manufacturers of sterling and silverplate flatware and hollowware. The second mark from the top is rarely seen. The bottom mark is for Wallace Sheffield Plate. Today, Wallace is owned by Syratech Corporation of East Boston, Massachusetts.

Andrew Ellicot Warner
Andrew Ellicot Warner worked in Baltimore, MD with his brother Thomas from 1805-1811. He then worked on his own until his death in 1870. Thomas was the first assayer of silver in Baltimore under the silver purity act of August 1, 1814.

Watrous Mfg. Co. Located in Wallingford, Connecticut The Watrous Mfg. Co. was started in 1896 and was one of the original companies that formed the International Silver Co. in 1898. Primarily a maker of silver plate that also made some items in sterling.

Watson Co.
Watson Co.
The Watson Co. was established in 1874 in Attleboro, Massachusetts and had showrooms in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. They are known for making sterling souvenir spoons, flatware, hollowware and glass mounted with silver. The Thomae Co was a division of The Watson Co. The top mark is that of a flag with an "H" in the center.

Webster Co.
Webster Co.
The Webster Company was originally founded by George K. Webster in 1869 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Their line of sterling items included over 20 patterns of dresser sets, picture frames, cigarette holders, bowls, baby items, candlesticks, napkin rings and more. They were primarily manufacturers of sterling items, however they did have a small line of silver plate items. In 1958, they purchased the Frank W. Smith Silver Co. and today the Webster Co. is part of Reed & Barton Silversmiths.

Weidlich Co.

The Weidlich Sterling Spoon Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut manufactured sterling souvenir spoons and sterling flatware.

Wendell August Forge The Wendell August Forge was started in 1923 and is still in business today. They no longer make items in sterling, but rather in aluminum and bronze. All their items are hand crafted. This mark came from a John F. Kennedy commemorative plate.

John L. Westervelt was born in 1826 and worked in Newburgh, NY in the 1840's and 1850's. (Marks of American Silversmiths: Belden) John L. Westervelt

Westmorland Sterling Co. The Westmorland Sterling Co. was started in 1940 in Wallingford, CT. They sold 5 different patterns door-to-door that were produced by Wallace Silversmiths. The names of their patterns are George & Martha, John & Priscilla, Lady Hilton, Milburn Rose and Enchanting Orchid.

Whiting & Davis Co. The Whiting & Davis Co., of Plainville, Massachusetts, trace their roots to 1876. They are best known for their sterling mesh handbags, but this mark comes from a sterling souvenir spoon.

The Frank M. Whiting & Co. was founded in 1878 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts by the son of William Whiting, the founder of the Whiting Manufacturing Co. In 1897 the company was incorporated and later was purchased by the Ellmore Silver Company of Meriden, CT. Their line included sterling silver flatware, hollowware, novelties, souvenir spoons, and baby goods.

Whiting Manufacturing Co. This is the mark of the Whiting Manufacturing Co. founded in North Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1866. Purchased in 1926 by the Gorham Co. and relocated to Providence, Rhode Island.

Wilcox Silver Plate Company - Located in Meriden, Connecticut. One of the original companies to join together and become part of The International Silver Company in 1898.

Roger Williams Silver Co. The Roger Williams Silver Co. purchased the dies of the Howard Sterling Co. in approximately 1901. In 1903 they merged with the Mauser Mfg. Co. and the Hayes & McFarland Co. to form the Mt. Vernon Silversmiths Co.

Wood & Hughes, a New York City silver manufacturer, was started by Jacob Wood and Jasper H. Hughes. Firm was known as Gale, Wood & Hughes between 1833 and 1845. Company was purchased in 1899 by Graff, Washbourne & Dunn.
